Reicht es, wenn eine Frau nur ein Aushängeschild ist?
„Das Telephon“ - Opera buffa in einem Akt von Gian-Carlo Menotti von der Grazer Oper, gespielt auf der Murinsel.

Die Handlung ist banal: ein Heiratsantrag. Nur gibt es da zwei Hürden: Er muss in einer Stunde auf eine Geschäftsreise und sie ist vom Telefon nicht wegzubekommen. Wie verflixt läutet das Telefon jedes Mal, sobald er die entscheidende Frage stellen will: „Wollen wir heiraten?“.

Das, was sich beim Durchlesen des Programmheftes unterhaltend und witzig  anhört, kommt abstrus und verstörend mitten in der Handlung vor. Denn die Frau, die Ben liebt, zerstört das Frauenbild, das durch Jahrhunderte mit so viel Kraft und Energie etabliert wurde.

Wer sich noch an den Film „Natürlich blond“ mit Reese Witherspoon erinnert, erkennt auch, dass hier viele Klischees durchbrochen wurden. Eine blonde Frau, die Model sein will und von allen als dumm und inhaltlos abgestempelt wird. Elle bricht alle Vorurteile, indem sie beweist, dass blond und gesunder Verstand nicht nur zusammenhängen, sondern dass jeder, wenn er hart darum kämpft, alles erreichen kann. Vor allem als Frau beweist sie, dass eine Frau den perfekten Style, Hirn und Erfolg in einem vereinen kann.

Lucy aus dem „Telephon“ ist der Antipode von Elle aus „Natürlich blond“. Denn die Frau hat letztlich keinen Inhalt. Äußerlich entspricht sie dem Klischee einer „perfekten Frau“: von den Schuhen bis zu den Haarspitzen perfekt gestylt, perfekte Figur, schönes Gesicht. Innerlich – eine Leere. Alles, was Lucy (lebhaft von Lalit Worathepnitinan gesungen) interessiert, ist, mit ihrer Freundin, die schon sichtlich gelangweilt sie mit dem Auftragen einer Maske abzuschrecken versucht, oder einem Unbekannten, der sich lediglich verwählt hat, über das Wetter zu reden. Im Allgemeinen scheinen Telefongespräche ohne Inhalt ihr tägliches Brot zu sein. Ohne frauenfeindlich oder abwertend sein zu wollen – im Zuschauerraum waren viele Frauen anwesend – fragt man sich, warum schließlich will Ben sie heiraten? Damit sie ein schönes Aushängeschild für ihn ist?

„Menottis Einakter wird an einer Stelle des Abends durch einen Monolog McShanes und einen Song (Komponist: Leonard Bernstein) unterbrochen. Dieser szenische und musikalische Einschub ist eine inszenatorische Entscheidung und geht nicht auf das Originalskript Menottis zurück.“ So im Programmheft zur Opera buffa in einem Akt von Gian-Carlo Minotti „Das Telephon“. Dieser Monolog ist der stärkste Teil des Abends. Denn Ben (stimmungsvoll von McShane gesungen) weist hier darauf hin, dass Männer den Entscheidungen der Frauen ausgeliefert sind. Sie bemühen sich, versuchen, deren Ansprüchen gerecht zu werden, das letzte Wort hat aber immer die Frau, die ihre Entscheidung dann trifft.
 

 
Wie geht es, dass in einem so kurzen Stück das Frausein so zwiespältig dargestellt wird? Männer, die sich bemühen und an die Entscheidung der Frauen glauben, und auf der anderen Seite Frauen, die ohne einen Plan durch ihr Leben gehen?
 

Die Wahl der Location für die Aufführung – die Grazer Murinsel – war bis auf die Wetterbedingungen, die man nicht voraussehen konnte (sehr frisch, allerdings ohne Regen), gut getroffen. Umgeben von den Kameras und Lichtleitungen fühlte man sich mitten im Geschehen. Das Kaffeehaus mitten in der Mur machte das Schauspiel umso authentischer.
